The story of Tattoo begins in 1820, when a young Scotsman, William Smith, joins the U.S. Army in Boston. Ten years later, he witnesses a bloody conflict between farmers and Shawnee Indians. William is captured and sentenced to eternal life by the tribe chief. The curse is associated with a ritual tattoo on his back - a red poppy with a smoking skull.
